As we daily continue to asbsorb the enormity of artificial intelligence, the next revolution of Internet sits on our door step. It's not a question of if - it's when smart phones will become as obsolete as hardwired car phones and typewriters. The Internet will merge with the human body and the intial findings are it will be safer than Bluetooth - which currently has a range of on average 33 feet (10 meters) or in the highest class up to 300 feet.
However, the security concerns do not necessairly involve signal range - it involves something most people do all day long - interaction with other people. Let's go ahead and lay some of the worst case scenarios on the table. Someone has an implanted medical device. A bad actor shakes hands or touches the person. Both individuals have active body internet connections. The bad actor gains control of the medical device and signals a rasomware alert to the individual: pay up or the medical device will stop working. Same situation, but in this example the bad actor is able to gain access to banking information. Pay a rasom or lose all of your money.
Is this a real concern? Yes, it is. And now is the time to consider these ramifications, these scenarios while the technology is being developed - not after the fact.
BodyInternet.com will explore these scenarios and the technology. We will experiment with electronics already being utilized to test this next internet revolution. When can we expect body internet to become a reality? By some measures, in five years for the beginning of the new technology, with additional years needed to refine it. Let's focus on the security of this technology. Additional posts to follow this one.
